# EternalTags Commands, Placeholders and Permissions

EternalTags reference: /tags commands, permission nodes, PlaceholderAPI placeholders, categories, favorites, MySQL and tag config fields in one page.

## EternalTags Commands, Placeholders and Permissions

**Quick answer:** EternalTags players open the menu with `/tags`. Staff create and edit tags with `/tags create`, `/tags edit` and `/tags delete`. Permissions follow `eternaltags.*` and `eternaltags.tag.<id>`, and the main placeholder is `%eternaltags_tag%`. This page lists them all in one place.

## Player commands

| Command              | What it does                   |
| -------------------- | ------------------------------ |
| /tags                | Opens the tags menu            |
| /tags set <tag>      | Equips a tag                   |
| /tags clear          | Clears your tag                |
| /tags favorite <tag> | Favorites or unfavorites a tag |
| /tags favorites      | Opens your favorites           |
| /tags search <text>  | Searches tags                  |
| /tags categories     | Opens the categories menu      |

## Staff commands

| Command                 | What it does                                                     |
| ----------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
| /tags create <id> <tag> | Creates a tag                                                    |
| /tags edit ...          | Edits a tag's category, icon, order or description               |
| /tags delete <id>       | Deletes a tag                                                    |
| /tags reload            | Reloads the configuration                                        |
| /tags convert <plugin>  | Imports tags from another plugin, such as DeluxeTags or CIFYTags |

Run `/tags help` on your server to see exactly what your version offers.

## Permissions

| eternaltags.clear                                        | Clear your tag     |
| eternaltags.favorite                                     | Favorite tags      |

| eternaltags.categories                                   | Open categories    |
| eternaltags.tag.<id>                                     | Unlock one tag     |
| eternaltags.create, eternaltags.edit, eternaltags.delete | Staff management   |
| eternaltags.reload                                       | Reload the plugin  |

Operators receive permissions automatically, so test with a normal player. LuckPerms example:

## Placeholders

| Placeholder                       | Returns                       |
| --------------------------------- | ----------------------------- |
| %eternaltags\_tag%                | The player's active tag       |
| %eternaltags\_active%             | The active tag ID             |
| %eternaltags\_has\_<tag>%         | Whether the player owns a tag |
| %eternaltags\_has-unlocked\_<id>% | Locked or unlocked state      |
| %eternaltags\_favorites%          | Number of favorites           |

## Tag configuration fields

Tags live in `plugins/EternalTags/tags.yml`:

| Field       | Meaning                                               |
| ----------- | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| name        | Display name in the menu                              |
| tag         | The formatted tag text, with color or gradient syntax |
| description | Lore lines in the menu                                |
| permission  | The node needed to use it                             |
| category    | Groups the tag in the categories menu                 |

Color syntax depends on the plugin version, so check the wiki.
