## Setting Up Multiverse for Multiple Worlds

_Most servers start with one world and eventually need several: a lobby, a resettable resource world, an event arena._

Multiverse-Core manages the creation, loading, and configuration of multiple worlds on a single server, without needing to manually edit server files or restart for every change.

## Install Multiverse-Core

[Multiverse-CoreThe Bukkit World Management Plugin.On Modrinth ](https://modrinth.com/plugin/multiverse-core)

Download Multiverse-Core from the project linked above. Check the supported Minecraft version, server platform, Java requirement and dependencies for the selected release.

1. Back up the server files and any plugin database.
2. Stop the server before changing JAR files. Put the compatible plugin build and its required dependencies in the correct plugin folder.
3. Start the server and read the startup log. Resolve missing dependencies or version errors before editing the generated configuration.
4. Stop the server, make one small configuration change, then restart and test it with a non-operator account.

Confirm Multiverse-Core loads after a clean restart. Test the feature you need with an ordinary player account before adding optional integrations.

## Creating a New World

```
/mv create lobby normal
/mv create resource_world normal
/mv create arena flat
```

The second argument is the world type. `normal`, `flat`, `nether`, or `the_end` are the common ones. A `flat` world is commonly used for lobbies or arenas where natural terrain generation isn't needed.

## Teleporting Between Worlds

```
/mv tp <player> <worldname>
```

or, for teleporting yourself:

```
/mvtp <worldname>
```

## Setting World-Specific Spawn Points

```
/mvsetspawn
```

run while standing in a world sets that world's spawn point to the current location. Each world has its own independent spawn, separate from the overall server spawn.

## Managing World Permissions and Access

```
/mv modify set gamemode creative lobby
/mv modify set pvp false lobby
```

lets per-world settings (gamemode, PvP, monster spawning, and more) be configured independently, so a creative-mode build world and a survival main world can coexist without conflicting settings.

## Resetting a World

For a resource world that needs periodic regeneration:

```
/mv regen resource_world
```

regenerates the world from scratch using the same seed and settings, clearing player-made changes. This is useful for a resource-gathering world that should periodically refresh without resetting the entire server.

## Unloading Worlds That Aren't Needed Live

```
/mv unload <worldname>
```

frees the memory a loaded-but-unused world takes up, without fully deleting it. It can be reloaded later with `/mv load <worldname>` if needed again.

## A Note on Cross-World Plugin Behavior

Not every plugin is automatically Multiverse-aware. Economy, permissions, and protection plugins each have their own settings for whether they apply globally or per-world, and those need to be checked independently rather than assumed to just work once Multiverse is installed.

## Separate worlds without separating every rule

Multiple worlds can have different purposes: survival, a lobby, creative building, or resource gathering. However, a second world does not automatically get independent inventories, permissions, economy settings, or protection rules.

Before opening a new world to players, decide which rules must be shared and which require a separate integration.

| Setting | Check before launch |

| --- | --- |

| Inventory | Shared between worlds or intentionally separated? |

| Teleport permissions | Can regular players access the world? |

| Spawn points | Are joins and respawns predictable? |

| Protection | Do claims and region rules apply correctly? |

| Backups | Is every world directory included? |

| Resource world reset | Has player-built content been excluded? |

Test travel in both directions using a non-operator account. Keep a clear naming convention for worlds and backup folders so staff members can recognize them.

See the [Multiverse-Core project](https://github.com/Multiverse/Multiverse-Core) for version-specific commands.

## Document which plugin owns each world rule

For each world, list the owner of spawn behavior, permissions, inventory separation and portals. These may be separate plugins. Then test the world's intended rules with a new player account. If an inventory crosses worlds unexpectedly, inspect the component responsible for isolation rather than assuming world management includes it automatically. Keep a simple map of portal destinations so a later world rename does not leave hidden broken routes.

Treat removing a world as a player-data change. Decide what happens to people who last disconnected there, where they return and whether the world can be restored. Back up the world and relevant plugin data before testing removal on a copy. For temporary event worlds, include closing procedures in the event plan. Check access from commands as well as portals; closing one visible entrance may not close every route into the world.

### Troubleshooting paths

- Wrong inventory follows the player: inspect the isolation plugin and groups.
- Portal destination fails: verify world names and access permissions.
- Closed world remains reachable: test commands and saved player locations.

## Check permissions and inventories between worlds

Create a test warp and move a regular player between the intended worlds. Verify survival/adventure settings, permissions, world spawn locations, portals and inventory behavior. Multiverse world management does not automatically mean each world has separate inventories; use a documented inventory-management integration if your design requires it.

Back up every world folder and its matching plugin data before changing world names or removing worlds.
