## Spawner Calculator: Income per Hour and Payback Math

**Quick answer:** a spawner calculator multiplies **drops per hour x spawner count x item price**, then divides the spawner's cost by that income to get **payback time**. Use the formulas and spreadsheet rows below to compare spawner types, set prices and spot inflation before launch.

## The basic formulas

| Name                     | Formula                                                             |
| ------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Expected items per cycle | drop\_chance x chance x average amount                              |
| Income per cycle | Expected items per cycle x sell price, summed over every loot entry |
| Cycles per hour          | 3600 / seconds between cycles                                       |
| Income per hour | Income per cycle x cycles per hour x output factor |
| Payback time (hours) | Spawner cost / income per hour |
| Income per day | Income per hour x hours it can run |

The **output factor** is how stack size and bonuses change output. In a simple model it equals the stack count. If your plugin uses diminishing returns, it is smaller than the stack count. Check your plugin's docs and measure.

## Worked example

Illustrative values for a skeleton-style spawner:

| Item  | Chance | Average amount | Price | Value per cycle |
| ----- | ------ | -------------- | ----- | --------------- |
| Bone  | 100%   | 1.5            | 2     | 3.00            |
| Arrow | 50%    | 1.0            | 1     | 0.50            |

- Income per cycle: 3.50
- Cycles per hour: 120
- Income per hour for one spawner: 3.50 x 120 = 420
- Spawner cost: 5,000
- Payback time: 5,000 / 420, about 11.9 hours

For 10 spawners in a simple stack model, income is 4,200 per hour and payback time stays 11.9 hours, because each spawner earns the same. Diminishing returns would lengthen payback for big stacks.

## Spreadsheet setup

Create a sheet with these columns: **A** Type, **B** Cost, **C** Expected value per cycle, **D** Cycles per hour, **E** Output factor, **F** Income per hour, **G** Payback hours.

In row 2:

```
F2: =C2*D2*E2
G2: =B2/F2
```

For a loot table, add one row per entry and sum:

```
C2: =SUMPRODUCT(chance_range/100, avg_amount_range, price_range)
```

Replace the range names with your cell ranges. Drag the formulas down for each spawner type.

## Estimate cycles per hour

Do not guess. Measure it:

1. Place a spawner on a test server.
2. Enable debug output. In EliteSpawner, use `/esp debug`.
3. Time a set number of cycles and count the output.
4. Repeat with a stack and with boosts.

Different activation modes also change income, since spawners may only run when a player is nearby. See [EliteSpawner Setup Guide](https://www.zcraftstudios.com/blog/elitespawner-plugin-setup-guide).

## Compare spawner types

| Spawner | Income per hour | Cost   | Payback |
| ------- | --------------- | ------ | ------- |
| Basic   | Low             | Low    | Short   |
| Mid     | Medium          | Medium | Medium  |
| Elite   | High            | High   | Longer  |

A good ladder keeps payback times in a sensible order, and keeps total earning from outrunning your money sinks. ## Add taxes, fees and offline caps

Real income is lower than the raw number:

- Selling taxes or market fees
- Storage caps that stop earning when full. See [EliteSpawner Permissions](https://www.zcraftstudios.com/blog/elitespawner-permissions-storage-tiers-auto-sell)
- Time offline, if spawners only run near players
- The cost of building and protecting a base

## Watch for inflation

Re-run the sheet after every price or loot change. If payback times shrink over time, prices are drifting. Add sinks or reduce loot. See [Designing Fair Reward Systems](https://www.zcraftstudios.com/blog/minecraft-server-reward-systems-fair).

## For players

If you play on a server with spawners, the same formulas help you compare buying options: income per hour x count, minus your operating costs, divided into the price. Always test with a timed run.

## Frequently asked questions

**How do you calculate spawner income?** Multiply expected value per cycle by cycles per hour and by the output factor.

**How do you calculate spawner payback time?** Divide the spawner cost by its income per hour.

**Do stacked spawners earn linearly?** In a simple model yes, but some systems use diminishing returns.

**How do I find cycles per hour?** Measure them with a timed test on your plugin.

**Can I make a calculator for players?** Yes, a simple web form or spreadsheet with these formulas works. Label it as an estimate.
