# zMenu Commands and Permissions: /zm Reference

## zMenu Commands and Permissions: /zm Reference

**Quick answer:** the main zMenu command is `/zm` (alias `/zmenu`), and the base permission is `zmenu.use`. The commands you will use most are `/zm open <menu> [player]` to open a menu, `/zm reload` to apply changes, `/zm list` to see inventories, and `/zm create` and `/zm save` to build menus faster.

## Main commands

## Reload commands

| Command                       | What it reloads             |
| ----------------------------- | --------------------------- |
| /zm reload                    | All configuration           |
| /zm reload config             | config and messages only    |
| /zm reload inventory \[name\] | All inventories, or one     |
| /zm reload command \[name\]   | All custom commands, or one |

All reload commands need `zmenu.reload`. Use the narrow versions while you are editing one menu, so you do not reload everything each time. ### Converting from DeluxeMenus

The conversion needs the zMenuConvert extension. After installing it, run `/zm convert`. Converted menus and commands are created in `inventories/convert` and `commands/convert`. ### LuckPerms examples

## Custom commands

Custom commands let players type `/shop` instead of `/zm open shop`. They live in `plugins/zMenu/commands/commands.yml`, and you can split them into several files in subfolders:

```

Notes:

- `command` is the name players type.
- `inventory` is the menu file to open.
- `permission` limits who can use it.
- `aliases` add shortcuts.

Give the permission with `/lp group default permission set server.shop true`, then run `/zm reload command`.

## Open commands with arguments

`/zm open` can pass arguments into a menu, which is useful for staff tools such as a punishment menu. Two ways:

/zm open zmenu:example_punish Maxlego08 false target:Maxlego09 reason:"a long reason"
/zm open zmenu:example_punish Maxlego08 false Maxlego09 test
```

## Troubleshooting

| Problem                      | Likely cause                                                             |
| ---------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| /zm says no permission       | Missing zmenu.use or another node                                        |
| A menu does not open         | The file did not load, so check the console and run /zm reload inventory |
| Custom command does nothing  | Missing permission, or you forgot /zm reload command                     |
| Players can open admin menus | A wildcard or operator status grants access                              |
| Placeholders show raw text   | Install PlaceholderAPI and the expansion                                 |
